BJS Shiksha Niketan

BJS started its second Sikhaniketan (BJS school) at the Baganbari area of Falakata in Alipurduar district. 30 children in the age group of 3 to 10 years are being taught here through various joyful learning methods. Students are given a basic school kit with copies, pencils, and erasers, etc. One of the group members with relevant skills have been appointed as a teacher. Regular parents meeting and encouraging extracurricular activities amongst the children are some of the key elements of Sikhaniketan.

p>Falakata Sikhaniketan has achieved a milestone within its very first year of operation. 5 students have excelled in their performance in their regular school after receiving tutorial support from Sikhaniketan. They have secured the top 3 positions in their annual examination.

BJS School Of Financial Literacy

For years the performance indicators of BJS in terms of PAR, repayment rates, delinquency rates have been quiet encouraging. One of the prime reason being our members are not just borrowers but they are financially literate borrowers.

Under BJS’s Financial Literacy Program members are facilitated to manage their funds in a very calculative and judicious manner to reduce their indebtedness and help them to come out of the vicious circle of poverty. Under this initiative year round trainings are held for members and even nonmembers to educate them on issues like fundamentals of

Fundamentals of financial planning
Mature borrowing
Smart savings
Wise spending
Intelligent investment

BJS uses modules designed for this purpose by NABARD and ISMW to train the members. Storytelling, audio visuals, case studies and role play are the methods used during these training. 69% of our total borrowers was covered under financial literacy training in this financial year.

THP Program

The marginalised people have multi-dimensional difficulties of-food insecurity, poor health, social stigma, limited skill and no assets and obviously all this is due to economic instability. “Targeting the Hardcore Poor (THP)” - is a comprehensive, long term and sustainable program designed to bring the truly marginalised people under the ambit of financial inclusion. BJS had ventured into its first credit plus programme THP targeting 100 beneficiaries in the year 2015, through an external fund and technical support. Seeing the impact created, BJS self-funded the second phase and in December 2018, 50 more beneficiaries were successfully graduated out of their marginalised state. Through this program BJS impacted the lives of the beneficiaries in terms of increased asset, diversified source of Income, savings habit, food security, financial inclusion, better health awareness, increased social capital and productive skills. Above all the self-esteem of this deprived and dejected class was highly boosted. To share this work, CEO Mr. Bishwajit Das was invited as a speaker in a one day workshop on financial inclusion of the truly marginalised population organised by Sadhan in Delhi.
